Challenge accepted.
How can we heat and cool a greenhouse with minimal environmental impact? This was the challenge presented to us by our customer from the UK. They had access to a waste-heat stream from a nearby digester facility…
Adding smartness.
To balance the greenhouse's heat demand with the heat production from the digester facility, a heat storage system was installed. To utilize the excess heat for cooling, an absorption chiller system was implemented, allowing the generation of the required chilled water from the waste heat.
We keep it real.
Thanks to the engineering and collaborative efforts between all parties involved, the greenhouse systems can now operate just as needed for any ‘normal’ greenhouse, creating the ideal growing environment. A stable system connection and integration also ensure that the digester facility can continue to operate as usual.
Done.
The greenhouse is now operating with very low fossil fuel consumption, as all the excess heat from the digester facility is efficiently utilized instead of being wasted. This is a true example of system integration, where two industries work together seamlessly to create a more sustainable future.
