Challenge accepted.

A consortium of seven growers in 'De Vogelaer' in Poeldijk joined forces for a major project: together, they wanted to harness the geothermal energy of the area. By doing so, the participants aimed to take a significant leap forward in terms of sustainability while also reducing energy costs. This large-scale project was where our expertise in energy systems really came into play.

02

Adding smartness.

The participants got off to a smart start. Since each grower hits their energy peak at different times of the year, the overall return is optimized for everyone. Previous geothermal energy projects had shown that consumers often face several challenges. In our view, this is unnecessary. It all comes down to making smart choices and careful planning. We decided to turn the entire design on its head. Our philosophy is simple: it's better to have something that works than something that's cheap.
03

We keep it real.

It goes without saying that drilling to a depth of 2.5 kilometers and connecting seven different companies to a geothermal heating and distribution system is a massive logistical task. We installed no less than 14 kilometers of pipeline. Roads had to be closed and trees had to be replanted. We even worked through the night to ensure everything ran smoothly. As with every project, we gave it our all to get the job done.

04

Done.

This project saves around 13.5 million cubic meters of natural gas every year. That results in an annual CO2 reduction of 24 kilotons. This is roughly equivalent to the energy consumption of 9,000 households. The cultivators are now growing their crops in a highly sustainable way. And, most importantly, ‘Aardwarmte Vogelaer’ is running smoothly, just as we had hoped.
